Our Worship Experience

The Old Aberdeen Road Church of Christ meets every Sunday in keeping with New Testament instruction and example.
Our service will include a cappella singing or non-instrumental. The Bible indicates instrumental music was not used in New Testament church worship. While we do not stand in judgment of those who do use it, we have chosen for ourselves to sing praise to God a cappella and make melody in our hearts.
Several prayers will be shared during a regular service. Prayers will be God addressed and in Christ’s Name. At times, prayers may address a particular need such as an intercessory prayer for those in need. As Jesus has taught us how to pray, so we should.
The Lord's Supper, the gathering together to break bread, is observed every Sunday. We pass unleavened bread (cracker) and unfermented wine (juice) to everyone, including visitors. It is the responsibility of each individual to decide if he or she is in a personal relationship with Jesus and in the proper mindset to receive His body and blood. On special occasions, a member will bring homemade, unleavened bread for communion.
We will have a Bible-based lesson during the service. We believe a minister should not neglect preaching the Word and that the pulpit is to be used to tell the good news, encourage and uplift Christians and prompt listeners to become more like Christ. Although some business must be discussed during the Sunday morning service, we usually reserve other times to address church related, non-worship business.
An opportunity for members to financially support the work of the church family will be offered. It is the responsibility of each individual to decide when to give and in what amount understanding that the New Testament instructs us to set aside a sum on the first day of the week in keeping with our income.
Men will take visible leadership roles during the service. But we understand that women, although they may be seated in the congregation, provide an element of leadership for their personal families, those sitting around them and the church family as a whole.
We have a video projector and screen used during our services at the discretion of the worship leader and speaker.  Powerpoint presentations or videos may include comtemporary Christian background music.  A worship leader heads our song service with the support of our praise team. We strive to present our worship as respectful and reverent to God and Christians are allowed to respond to the Holy Spirit as He leads them.
